the commune house ("cohouse") is a home in the atlanta area available as free housing for women facing domestic violence, housing insecurity and other financial burdens. it is set up to be a safe, comfortable and restorative space for all women who stay here, whether its just for a few days or months.
the fully-furnished rooms in the home are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and women can stay for as many days, weeks, or months that you need.
in addition to being a safe space for women, the cohouse is intended to help build community amongst women. there'll be regularly-planned (but optional!) activities like group dinners, movie nights, crafting days and we are building out a garden that can benefit from the love and attention of anybody who is interested. there will be lots of other opportunities to get involved and develop new connections with other women staying at the home as well.
each room is furnished with a bed, nightstand, desk, chair, and a closet.
the house has a fully-equipped eat-in kitchen, two shared bathrooms, a living room, laundry, limited additional storage, and a flex space outfitted with a work-from-home desk area, a computer, mini-library, art supplies & spiritual tools.
the yard is being developed into a functional garden with cool outdoor spaces, such as a deck & grilling area, fireside seating and water feature. art made by different women is featured throughout the home.
the home is located in south metro atlanta, 15 minutes from downtown (depending on traffic! you know how atlanta is), a few minutes to 285, 75, 675 highways, 10 minutes from the airport & MARTA and close to plenty of groceries and restaurants.
